RESIDENTS who are worried about speeding in their community can ask for SID to visit their community to encourage drivers to slow down.

The invitation for SID to visit your area comes from Knutsford Town Council, which is looking to target speeding hotspots across the town.

A portable Speed Indication Device (SID) is being used in Northwich Road as part of a community safety initiative by the council.

The council’s Environment Committee gave the go-ahead for the purchase of the device with the aim of reducing speeds in problem parts of the town.

The SID will remain in Northwich Road for three weeks before going on a tour of speeding hotspots.

The public are being invited to play their role in helping to cut speeds by suggesting roads where the device was needed.

Cllr Peter Coan, the chairman of the council’s Environment Committee, said: “Anecdotal evidence shows that drivers are often unaware of the actual speed which they are travelling at.

“We hope this new Speed Indicator Device will improve driver speed compliance by displaying to drivers their speed, which we hope will encourage them to slow down.

“This anticipated reduction in speed will increase safety and reduce the risk of accidents.

“The data this device collects will support our local police in deploying their resources effectively.”

The portable device will be looked after by Knutsford Town Council’s new Town Ranger, Bob Garner, who will be in charge of moving the SID and ensuring that the battery is recharged each week.

Police regularly monitor speeds across the town, and as a result of one of the latest enforcement sessions have issued a number of tickets on Chester Road, Mere, where speeds of more than 40 mph were recorded.

Drivers were also recorded speeding in Town Lane, Mobberley, using the Trucam device.
