STUDENTS are being invited to leave pebbles at a Garden of Memories on a poignant day next week.

The garden is being created at Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School in memory of year 9 student Nell Jones, one of the victims of the Manchester terrorist attack.

The garden of memories is near completion, and when the school re-opens after Easter, the majority of the planting should be complete.

A school spokesman said: “Central to this project is the River of Pebbles, where we are encouraging students, staff and members of our wider community, to leave their decorated pebbles.

“These don’t just have to be left in memory of someone, they can be memories of good times. Maybe a great holiday with family or a sporting achievement for example.

“The importance is about having somewhere to share memories and for everyone to be able to make their contribution to the garden.

“On Monday, April 16, the first day back at school after Easter, it would have been Nell Jones’ birthday, the first since she tragically lost her life.

“It seems such a fitting day to open the garden for Nell’s friends and fellow students to leave their pebbles and mark the occasion.

“We are encouraging everyone to who wants to join in to bring a pebble. During the day we will be encouraging students to visit the new garden and to place their pebbles.

“So, anyone who wishes to decorate and leave a pebble, please bring them with you on the first day back at school.

“The decorated pebbles are the only form of tributes we are asking people to leave at school. We are asking people not to leave floral tributes.”

Donations can be made by cash or cheque payable to The Remembering Nell Foundation and handed in at reception.
