THE Wilmslow Show will be running again this year and, for the green-fingered among you, the competition list for 2018 has just been released.

The Alderley Edge and Wilmslow Horticultural and Rose Society, in association with the Macclesfield and East Cheshire Branch of the British Cactus and Succulent Society, run a whole range of competitions in the flourishing horticultural marquee, with the results on display to visitors at the show.

This year, competitions in the horticultural marquee include flower arranging, sweet peas, cacti and succulents, fruit, vegetables and more. Also among the competitions are categories for young people’s cookery, natural history and handicrafts, which are open to under 17s.

Angela McPake, chairman of the Wilmslow Show, said: “We are proud of the heritage that the Horticultural Society gives us, and delighted that they are involved in the show.

“The horticultural marquee helps us offer our visitors something different if they want a break from all the other activities on offer, and we will often find parents taking a break in there during a hectic afternoon!

“I also love the fact it helps us maintain our roots as a traditional village show.”

A number of the classes are judged under Royal Horticultural Society rules, and whether you grow flowers or fruit, there is sure to be at a category to suit everyone.

The Wilmslow Show is now in its 106th year, and this year will be held on Sunday, July 8, at the Carnival Field on Altrincham Road. Entry to the competition is free.
