A NURSERY in Victoria Road has received a ‘good’ rating from Ofsted.

Safehands Green Start Nursery, based in Victoria Road Primary School, received an ‘outstanding’ rating for personal development, behaviour and welfare and ‘good’ ratings for effectiveness of the leadership and management, quality of teaching, learning and assessment and outcomes for children.

Insp Kay Heaford said: “Children’s independence is supported extremely well, staff communicate their high expectations about what they can achieve.

“Staff skilfully support children to gain confidence and a highly positive sense of self-esteem.

“The management team regularly complete a rigorous evaluation process. Managers and staff are reflective and display a strong commitment to providing high standards of care and learning.”

The nursery’s biggest strength, according to the report, is personal development, behaviour and welfare.

Insp Heaford said: “Children are kind, respectful and help each other and their behaviour is exemplary.

“Staff are superb role models and use a range of highly effective methods that promotes the children's emotional well-being.”

The safeguarding in place at the nursery also impressed the Inspector.

The inspector added: “The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Staff have a good understanding of child protection and of how to keep children safe.

“The manager and staff work successfully in partnership with other professionals to support children and their families as required.
