HEROES and villains from TV and film invaded Northwich for the year’s first Comic Con.

The event held at Northwich Memorial Court featured guest speakers from TV shows, cosplayers dressed as various characters and different stalls ranging from comic books to retro games.

Steve Howard, organiser, said: “The event went really well, everyone really seemed to enjoy it and we’ve had a lot of positive comments.

“We were a little bit worried about all of the Easter events in the town centre but the people still came and enjoyed it.”

Several guests were at the event to speak to fans and offer insights into life on the set of their favourite tv shows.

The speakers included Ross O’ Hennessey, the Lord of Bones in the popular HBO series Game of Thrones, Mark Dexter, Rimmer’s brother Howard in Red Dwarf and Jon Davy, famous for voicing multiple Doctor Who characters including the Daleks and Cybermen.

Steve said: “All the guests were very popular on the day, we had the comic artist for Dennis the Menace as well, everyone was really well received. If you ever get the chance to speak to Jon Davy, the stories he has to tell from his time on Doctor Who are incredible.

“Ross was very popular obviously because of how big Game of Thrones is as a series, he had his face mask with him as well, he’s another guest who is always happy to speak to fans and spend time with people.”

Comic Con has become a huge event globally over the past few years, with the conventions in Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham bringing in huge crowds but Steve is delighted to be able to give the people of Northwich the chance to experience what Comic Con has to offer.

He said: “In the bigger cities you have big events like this all the time, we go to areas that don’t get the chance to have an event like comic con.

“We put it out there as a great family event and we only book guests who are happy to speak to the fans.”
