ST BARTHOLOMEW’S church, Wilmslow, is holding an opening recital to celebrate the completion of its new organ.

After many months of anxious of waiting for the new instrument, the church will be pulling out all the stops at its gala opening on Saturday, March 10.

Roger Fisher, of Chester Cathedral, will be performing a varied programme of music, lasting an hour, which will demonstrate the power and versatility of the pipe organ.

The organ playing console, where the performer sits, can be moved around the church, to ensure the audience have a clear view of the organist at work.

The new instrument has been steadily taking shape in St Bartholomew’s since October last year. It has three rows of playing keys and foot pedals, and a total of 42 speaking stops.
