KNUTSFORD Academy has been selected as the hub for a new four-year partnership with the University of Oxford.

The Target One programme aims to increase applications to Oxford, Cambridge and other Russell Group universities from non-selective school students in the area.

With initiatives including academic placements, workshops, conferences and hands-on days out, the programme will be led by Oxford tutors from Pembroke College and Knutsford Academy staff.

The academy has bene chosen as the hub, which will bring in others from across Cheshire, due to excellent results and previous initiatives focused on boosting Oxbridge aspirations among their students.

Mike Cladingbowl, executive principal of Knutsford Multi-Academy Trust, said, “Target One Cheshire is an unprecedented opportunity for the students in Cheshire, designed and delivered by one of the world’s top universities.

“We will take full advantage of the incredible courses on offer and ensure that our fantastic students derive the maximum benefit.”

At the launch event on February 6, more than 700 students and parents attended from schools in Poynton, Fallibroome, Wilmslow, Sandbach, Tarporley, Eaton Bank and Malbank.

The presentation included an introduction to the programme from Dr Peter Claus, Access Fellow at Pembroke College.
