CHESHIRE East Council's chief operating officer Peter Bates has been suspended as part of an investigation into officer conduct.

The senior officer is the third to be placed on leave, after chief executive Mike Suarez and head of legal services Bill Norman earlier this year.

CEC's investigation and disciplinary committee met behind closed doors n Monday, December 4, and made the decision. Further details have not been revealed.

The chairman of the investigation and disciplinary committee said:  “We would stress that suspension is a neutral act taken in the interests of both the council and the individual.

"It would be inappropriate to make any further comment at this stage.”

Appropriate arrangements will be put in place to ensure that the responsibilities of this role are covered.
