THREE Knutsford mums who worked to transform an area of disused Shaw Heath land into an activity-filled garden have been shortlisted for a Community Impact Week award.
Sisters Samantha and Sarah Pownall and Sarah Blaylock, the team behind the Secret Gardens of Springfield, are up for recognition in the Better Neighbourhoods category after creating the space in just seven weeks.
The family-friendly, free-to-use garden includes a sensory garden, a food production area and a relax and play area complete with picnic benches.
More than 100 people attended the garden’s ribbon-cutting, after the group raise more than £13,000 in funding and donations from the Big Lottery Fund, Manchester Airport, Knutsford Lions, Great Places Housing Group Residents’ Fund, Knutsford Town Council and Treestation.
Community Impact Week runs until Sunday, November 12, and you can get your vote in before then.
The awards give housing associations an opportunity to publicly celebrate the difference they make for individuals and the places in which they live.
