A PLASTICS company's Knutsford factory was evacuated this afternoon as firefighters tackled a blaze.
Black smoke was spotted pouring from a chimney at Albis, a plastics distribution firm based on the Parkgate industrial estate,
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Wilmslow and Lymm were called at 2.24pm today, Monday, arriving on site around 15 minutes later.
Two firefighters wore breathing apparatus as they tackled the fire in an extractor unit.
It is believed to have been extinguished around 3.10pm, with crews remaining at the scene to check for hotspots.
A Cheshire Fire spokesman said: "The fire was in an extractor unit on the ground floor.
"The whole building has been evacuated. The sprinklers are on in the affected part of the building.
"Firefighters, two wearing breathing apparatus, used a hole reel jet and thermal imaging camera."
Headquartered in Hamburg, Albis has been in Knutsford for 43 years and employs around 120 staff locally.
