A MAN has been taken to hospital following a fire in the 11th floor of the high rise flats in Handforth.
A large team of firefighters from Poynton, Cheadle, Stockport, Withington and Whitehall were all sent to the Jubilee Court flats in Chelford Road at around 7pm this evening, Tuesday.
A hydraulic platform and supporting pump was also sent from Lymm to assist firefighters.
A spokesman from Cheshire Fire Service said: “Fire crews were called to a fire in the 11th floor of a block of flats on Chelford Road, Handforth, Wilmslow.
“Crews, two wearing breathing apparatus, rescued a male from the property and extinguished a cooking fire using two hose reel jets.
“The male was taken to hospital by paramedics. Crews remained at the scene for approximately one hour and 40 minutes.”
This comes two months after the fire at Grenfell Tower in London, which killed more than 80 people.
Following the Grenfell Tower fire, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service have reassured residents at Jubilee Court that fire safety at the three blocks of apartments in Handforth was a priority.
The cladding surrounding the Jubilee Court buildings is currently in the process of being tested.
