EXTREME sports fanatics in Holmes Chapel will soon have access to a new skate park following approval by Cheshire East Council.

The skate park is set to be built within the grounds of Holmes Chapel Community Centre off Station Road, adjacent to the site’s existing rugby pitch.

Plans submitted by Holmes Chapel Parish Council were approved on January 31, meaning that development can now begin.

Skateboarders, BMXers, scooters and roller-bladers will all be able to use the site, which will be open to the public and free to use.

Holmes Chapel Parish Council said that there is no intended age range and that it is available to anyone who wishes to use it.

The supporting document said: “The skate park has been designed to appeal and be usable to all abilities, without being too difficult for beginners or too easy, or quick to tire from for professionals. This has been achieved by the design and layout of the obstacles and their relationship with each other.”

Before submitting the plans, the parish council consulted with a number of parties including residents, schools and the community centre users.

The skate park is designed to have a mixture of ‘streetstyle’ and ramp themed obstacles.

The statement also laid out the benefits of having the skate park, saying: “At present, the young people in the Parish have no dedicated facility to allow them to use their skateboards, scooters or BMX bikes away from public areas.

“The proposed modern skatepark will provide: A safe environment for skaters; BMXers, scooters and other users, improve the quality and usability of the recreation area, a picturesque design and construction, sympathetic to the surrounding landscape- not hidden from view, but softly integrated, an area that is appealing to spectators and those using the park for other activities.”
