Wilmslow primary schools rank among east Cheshire's top performing for SATs

SEVERAL primary schools from around Wilmslow and Alderley Edge are among the best performing in the borough for key stage two achievement.

Five schools in the area have been named in the top 20 for east Cheshire in recent figures by the Department of Education, which show the percentage of pupils meeting the expected SATs standard for year six pupils.

Chelford C of E Primary and Nether Alderley were named the fourth and fifth-highest achieving schools in the borough respectively, with 86 per cent of pupils meeting the expected standard at both schools.

Lacey Green Primary Academy finished 10th in the list, where 79 per cent of pupils met the expected standard in the tests, which cover reading, writing and maths.

Ashdene Primary and Gorsey Bank Primary were also named in the top 20 schools in the borough, with a significant majority of their students performing ‘above’ or ‘well above’ the national average in all three subjects.

Cllr Rod Menlove, borough councillor for Wilmslow East, told the Guardian: “I welcome the fact that Wilmslow schools are among the top performers in the borough.

“I look forward to that achievement being continued no matter what that target revised figure stands at.”

The average level of achievement for primary chools in east Cheshire stood at 52 per cent, and only three Wilmslow schools fell below that figure.

At St Benedict’s Catholic Primary, 39 per cent of pupils reached the expected standard for SATs, while 38 per cent of pupils reached the target at Styal Primary, and only 32 per cent of pupils at Lindow Community Primary hit the target.

East Cheshire’s best-performing primary school was Lostock Hall, in Poynton, where 94 per cent of pupils met the expected SATs performance target.

Zero per cent of pupils achieved the target figure at Hurdsfield Community Primary School and Broken Cross Primary Academy, both in Macclesfield.
