A FIRM of architects in Wilmslow has been recognised for creating a stylish family home in Cheshire.

Fasciato Architects, in Stoney Lane, has been shortlisted for the 2016 Northern Design Award for New Build Homes, following its work in designing Top Mill Cottage near Frodsham.

The prestigious event is attended by leading designers, retailers and property developers from across the north, and is the biggest award Fasciato has ever been nominated for.

Chris Hymas, lead designer on Top Mill Cottage, believes the home complements its surroundings while offering its owners something different to other houses.

“Our clients came to us with a brief for a house – they are quite a young couple and they wanted a family home that was unique,” he said.

“It was a really lovely site with a big garden, and there used to be a water mill on the land many years ago.

“The house was designed to be open plan with a large family room and living room.

“It has a view all the way round of the garden, there are big sliding panels so you can see out, and the owners are pleased with the final result.”

Chris has worked as an architect for 11 years, and has been involved in several Fasciato projects including homes, restaurants and bars.

Fasciato will find out if it is successful in a ceremony at the Royal Armouries museum in Leeds, on Friday, November 11, and Chris is optimistic his team can return with the top prize.

Chris said: “It’s a lovely house so we are confident we can win the award.

“We have had some success in the past but we have never been nominated for such a large award before.

“We’re a small firm, we work closely as a team, and it’s nice to be recognised in such a big ceremony.”
