A TRADITIONAL weekend of country crafts will make the perfect family day out this August Bank Holiday at Tatton Park.

Held at the estate's farm, this is the fourth year the event has delighted visitors to Tatton.

During the weekend skilled local craftsman demonstrate their rural farming practices and give visitors an insight in to their expert and intriguing techniques. Cheshire bee keepers and dry stone wallers will impress as well as spinning and meeting Tatton’s own rangers to learn more about the wildlife in the Park.

During the weekend there will be the chance to have a go at plate spinning or trying the uni-cycle at the Circus skills workshop and take part in traditional games including all time favourites the three legged race and tug of war.

Country life isn’t complete without the magnificent horse and Tatton’s resident Shire horses Tabitha and Friar will entertain all with their fantastic ridden display to music. Shires have played an important role in farming country life. Not wishing to miss out, the farm’s sheep will also be taking part with their own sheep racing contests – the 100m hurdles which this year will be ridden by some recognisable characters from Roald Dahl’s best loved stories.

Visitors will be able to take a nostalgic step back, watch Morris dancing and on Sunday be entertained by the skill of the sheep dog with local sheepdog trainer Peter Hallam and watch the Northern Piping Band on Monday.

Back by popular demand is the highly entertaining ferret racing with Bear Behind Events and an opportunity to meet these furry fun ferrets.

To complement the activity and make for a great day out traditional stalls selling locally produced fayre from traders including Wells Foods, Great Budworth ice cream as well as Tatton’s own produced delicacies from the Housekeeper’s Store.

Jayne Chapman, farm manager, said: "This weekend is the jewel in our crown of summer farmyard fun, there really is a packed programme of events for everyone to enjoy from ferret racing to riding on a uni-cycle with a homemade ice cream in hand, fun for all the family."

The English Country Weekend at the Farm takes place Saturday, August 27 to Monday, August 29.
