AN Ollerton man has received a British Empire Medal (BEM) in the Queen’s Birthday honours list for services to his community.
Robert Weston, who has lived in the village for 45 years, was nominated and has received the honour thanks to his services to Ollerton, Marthall and Little Warford.
Mr Weston moved to the village in 1971 and has spent the last 38 years in helping to improve the community, chairing the Parent Teacher Association of the village school from 1977 to 1983 and serving on the village hall management committee from 1984 to 2007, chairing it from 1990.
“I was appointed chairman of the project team which was responsible for the funding and construction of the new "Hall at Marthall",” said Mr Weston. “I am continuing as a trustee of the hall.
“I was elected to the Ollerton with Marthall Parish Council in 2003 and appointed its chairman in 2013. I retired last year after 12 years as a parish councillor.”
