CHILDHOOD memories of an alternative Wilmslow rock band is set to form the basis of a new book on town band The1975.

The four member band who met while pupils at Wilmslow High School, consists of lead singer Matthew Healy, lead guitar Adam Hann, bass Ross MacDonald, and on drums George Daniel.

The global success of the band has been staggering since the release of their debut band album in September 2013 which went to number one in the UK charts.

The group's second album I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It, released in February, climaxed the first by going both to number one in the UK charts and the US Billboard 200.

The name of the band was taken from a book by beat poet On The Road American literary writer Jack Kerouac, which mentions the date June 1, The 1975.

Author David Nolan who has written books on bands which include Joy Division, New Order,

and Ed Sheeran, is coming to Wilmslow to speak with classmates, friends, fans who saw some of the band's early gigs.

David told the Guardian: "I want to write a book about the extraordinary success of The 1975 and it would be great to track down people who saw them at the very start.

"Who was the first person to see them live? Maybe it was at a school gig (they all went to Wilmslow High), a youth club or in some little pub? Unusual too for a band to come from one school. U2 are a notable example.

"They went through a lot of incarnations before they became 'The 1975'.... they were apparently known as The Slowdown and Drive Like I Do, amongst other things, and their earliest gigs involved playing punk covers at youth clubs."

"I did a book recently about Ed Sheeran and was able to find people who saw him at school, even a relative who saw him play standing on a table at a wedding!"
