PLANS to build 290 homes on the site of a photographic firm in Mobberley have been rejected for the second time by Cheshire East Council.

LPC Living wanted to build 290 homes on the Ilford/Harman Technology site in the village as well as create leisure space for residents.

This is not the first time that the developers have had designs on the site, and its first application, for up to 375 homes was rejected in November 2014.

But that application is currently under appeal with the Secretary of State, meaning that two applications have been live at the same time.

However at a strategic planning meeting held today, Wednesday, March 23, at Macclesfield Town Hall, committee members rejected the proposal for the second time.

Councillors said they were concerned by the aircraft noise from Manchester Airport, pointing out that with the airport's planned expansion it was only going to get worse.

The committee also had reservations about the amount of money being put forward by the developers to pay for the education structure in the village, citing that the numbers of pupils would increase by 25 per cent.

They also added the local highways would not be able to cope with the influx of new people.
