A WILMSLOW restaurant has participated in the annual Downing Street Christmas Market.

George Yiannis, of the Greek Cypriot restaurant The Stolen Lamb, on Grove Street, was at the event held on the eve of the UK’s third Small Business Saturday on December 5.

The event was aimed at promoting small businesses across the country and encouraging communities to shop locally.

The town business was one of 120 invited to the event, but was also invited to be one of 16 stall-holders, showcasing its products and services. The Stolen Lamb team provided the catering for the whole event.

The Stolen Lamb was opened on Grove Street, Wilmslow, by chef-proprietor Mr Yiannis, who grew up in Cheshire.

The family-run restaurant produces a seasonal menu using local suppliers and employs four apprentices in addition to its team of local employees.

Mr Yiannis said: “I was cooking in Downing Street using ingredients from my local Cheshire suppliers, most of which are small businesses specialising in niche products. Small Business Saturday promotes these businesses and it’s was a pleasure to be involved in the event”.

Wilmslow MP George Osborne said: “Small businesses like The Stolen Lamb are the heartbeat of our economy and central to the long-term economic plan.

"I will continue to champion Cheshire businesses, big and small, as our county punches well above its weight with home-grown talent.”
