KNUTSFORD train station has the best staff in the country – and that is a fact.

The team at the station picked up the 'Rail Team of the Year' gong on October at the 2015 Rail Staff Awards held in Coventry.

In August David Tyrer, mid Cheshire station manager for Northern Rail, nominated the Knutsford team – made up of Cheryl Thorne, Chris Crompton, Roy Wilson, John Archer and Gerhard Langner – for the award.

At the time of the nomination,David said: "They are a credit to me and my team.

“The reason they are so good is because they are very pro-active.”

And the judges and members of the public agreed, handing the team of five the coveted title of best in the country.

Dressed in their table’s theme as zebras, Cheryl Thorne and Roy Wilson collected the award on behalf of all at Knutsford in the team, together with a cheque for the prize of £1,000 to be shared between them.

Cheryl said: “We were delighted to win with all the good entries there were, and to be recognised for our friendly, helpful team and for all the good work the team does.

“All in the team, Chris, Ged, John, Roy and I thank Guardian readers for voting for us and for bringing this special trophy to Knutsford,”

John Oates, chair of the Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership, added:“This is great recognition, and coming so soon after our Community Rail Partnership won the Overall National Award, shows the Mid Cheshire Line to be a thriving community railway.”
