KNUTSFORDIANS are being invited to take to the stage and showcase their talents at the Knutsford Promenades 2015.

Based on the theme ‘Texts on the Front’, this year’s event will consist of specially staged music, dance and drama-based performances on Saturday July 4, as well as at set locations in the weeks before.

The event will draw upon stories and interviews with those with conflict and reconciliation and organisers are inviting people of all ages to participate as performers and helpers.

A drop-in event for anyone interested in taking part will take place on Thursday January 29 from 6.30pm at St John’s Church, Church Hill, Knutsford.

“This is a marvellous opportunity to work with some leading organisations and professionals in the arts world,” said organiser Sarah Flannery.

“Everyone’s welcome to drop-in and see how they can be involved in the Knutsford Promenades 2015.”

Knutsford writer John Smethurst is creating one of the performance pieces which will form part of the summer event.

His piece will draw on the effect of the Second World War on the town, including the period General Patton and the US Third Army were based in and around Knutsford.

“I got involved with the Promenades after a chance meeting with the organisers at the Knutsfordian II photographic exhibition at the Old Town Hall,” said John.

“That was obviously a sign as I’m now researching how that building became known as the ‘Donut Cafe’ during the Third Army’s time in Knutsford.

“I would love to know if any residents remember getting donuts from the soldiers – or if they have any family stories about the Second World War in Knutsford.”
