STAFF from a Knutsford business are clubbing together to help save the life of a young Kenyan boy – and are reaching out to Knutsfordians to help them achieve their goal.

George Ombachi, 7, from Uplands, was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2013 and employees from Barclays Technology Centre at Radbroke Hall raised the money for his treatment.

George recovered and seemed to be doing well until a relapse just before Christmas. Staff at Radbroke are now trying to raise the funds to get the critical specialist treatments, chemotherapy drugs and access to the hospitals he so desperately needs.

The team have successfully raised enough for George to start his next cycle of treatment and there are a variety of activities planned at Radbroke over the next few weeks.

Each course of chemotherapy costs £2000 and his treatment is likely to be in the region of £20,000 so the team are reaching out to Knutsfordians to ask for their help in reaching this target.

Val Holden, who is leading the campaign, said: “George has been through a lot in his short life but despite this he is a happy and loving little boy. Those of us who have been lucky enough to meet George felt we just had to do something.

“We really need to raise a lot of money, in a very short time, if George has a chance of getting better. All donations, no matter how small, would be really appreciated.”

Radbroke Hall staff came to know of George through their work with the new Hope Children’s Home in Kenya.

George was rescued from the slums of Nairobi when he was two and has been living at the home ever since.

Val will be travelling to Kenya next month with a group of Radbroke apprentices. They will see George and the other children from the orphanage.

She added: “The children at New Hope love English football and George is a keen Liverpool fan. If any readers have any suitable Liverpool FC related items that we could take to George then please get in touch.”
