The M6 has now re-opened in both directions following a collision on the southbound carriageway at around 11.30am today, Friday June 20.
The incident, involving a Honda motorcycle and a Black BMW, occurred between junctions 19 and 20, and led to a full closure of the motorway for a short period of time.
The rider of the motorcycle, a 56-year-old man from Wigan, was injured in the collision.
He has been taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
