ANOTHER busy month has gone by at Jodrell Side WI with preparations in full swing for the Cheshire Show and Rose Day.

The sub-committee for the Cheshire Show has held several meetings to finalise the entries and display strategy for the event. The die is now cast so they hope that the judges will look favourably on all the effort that has been put into it.

Likewise, the plans for their contribution to Rose Day are moving on at pace.

Various activities have been planned and the catering committee is fully involved in preparing the Queens tea.

Martin Blow was the speaker for the meeting with his topic ‘Perfect Partners’. The somewhat ambiguous title turned out to be plant partners, not as some of the members had wished for.

He showed some beautiful slides of plants that were perfect together by virtue of colour, shape or even times of the year when they flowered together.

Members were asked to choose which theatre visit they would prefer for the Christmas outing as the year is certainly marching on.

They were delighted to receive a number of visitors from several local WIs. These actually included Lower Withington, Astbury, Holmes Chapel and Goostrey.

The competition of a decorative plant pot was won by Helen Birchenough.

There was a successful raffle and members were happy to see many of the visitors winning prizes. Shirley Britton closed the evening and thanked Sheila Wood for the super cheese and wine buffet.
