VOLUNTEERS from Manchester Airport, Cheshire East Borough Council, Great Places Housing Group, Cheshire Fire & Rescue and Knutsford Library visited schools in Knutsford last week as part of an early-reading initiative.
Ten volunteers from the different Knutsford Support Group companies visited Manor Park and St Vincent’s Primary Schools to tell pupils what it is like to work with aeroplanes; in fire and rescue scenarios; manage low-cost homes; and maintain libraries – while emphasising how important literacy is in the workplace, regardless of which job they want to do.
The volunteers read their chosen books to the classes, followed by a chat about the story and a question and answer session, where the children could find out why it’s important to be able read if they want to be able to fly, fight fires, maintain houses or help people find an enjoyable read.
