THE Knutsfordian has something of a love/hate relationship with Manchester Airport.

What’s not to love about the convenience of having an airport on one’s doorstep?

My chauffeur McLaren can collect me at 7am, drop me off at Ringway and I can be in our glorious capitalist city of London by 8.30am.

Who needs a high speed train to take the strain when one can catch a plane?

There is, however, much to dislike about the airport.

One aspect being the peculiar lack of community relations from its eponymous department.

The mystery of the aircraft noise over Lower Peover has been dismissed by the community relations team as not worthy of a visit or even a cogent explanation.

Mr and Mrs Liyanearachchi have lived in the village for seven years.

Since May this year they have been woken daily at 6am by the noise of planes overhead.

The full story was published in last week’s edition of this august publication and can be read online, so The Knutsfordian will not repeat it at length.

Suffice to say, The Knutsfordian agrees the Liyanearachchis are not “bananas”, nor are the other residents who have been in touch with the Guardian’s Mr Wilson since the original article.

Time for Manchester Airport to exchange the cockpit for the driving seat and motor out to meet the people of Lower Peover.

The Knutsfordian has been browsing some of the online comments made on the Guardian’s website in preparation for his long overdue online debut.

The exchange of ‘views’ between a Stalybridge photography business and Knutsford Town Council’s acting town clerk and town centre manager caught his eye.

The Stalybridge business, a “regular” at the Knutsford market run monthly by Artisan Market Solutions Ltd, is irked because he failed to be allocated a stall at the Christmas Market being organised by the town council for the first time this year.

He claims the council is only interested in money and Christmas is his “reward” for buying stalls at the Artisan Market. “It is very damaging to me financially,” he concludes.

What of the Knutsford retailers who pay rents to be in the town all year round?

Should they give back their shops and sell from stalls in, say, Stalybridge?
