Knutsford Rugby Club should seek home of its own
5:00pm Wednesday 1st August 2012 in Letters
KNUTSFORD Rugby Club does not have its own ground, and has played its matches at the Egerton Youth Club.
It now seems they wish to play on the Knutsford Cricket Club ground. Measurements taken at this ground prove that the requirements for rugby could not be met without seriously affecting the cricket square and outfield, making the ground unfit for cricket. If rugby was to be played here it would be the end of Knutsford Cricket Club, which has played here for more than 100 years. The rugby club should be seeking a home of its own.
I played rugby for a team also without its own ground, and played our matches on the grammar school pitch for many years. During this time we raised funds, and eventually found a piece of land on the outskirts of town. It now has two pitches and a club house.
It can be done, and I am sure Knutsford Rugby Club could do it because they have good support and do splendid work with the juniors.
I wish them success, but not at the expense of the cricket club.
