Thank you to the people of Knutsford for all your hard work

AS an organiser of the jumble sale at Toft Cricket Club, I would like to thank the people of Knutsford for all their hard work, donations of fantastic quality jumble, and for coming down and supporting the event, which was raising money for the Red Cross Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

Many people helped sort the 200 bags of jumble but special credit must go to Pam, Jason (and his van), Joy, Clare, Claire, Laura, Caroline, Jill, Laura, Sarah, Lucy, Nicky, Sophie, Barbara, Margaret and Dianne without whom it would not have been the flying success that it turned out to be.

Karen Jones from the Red Cross did a wonderful job in supporting the event at very short notice and the residents of Knutsford were incredibly generous with their donations of clothes, toys, books and bric-a-brac.

Fifth Knutsford Apache Beavers made the signs and a collage to promote the jumble sale and Colin Evans donated all takings from the signing of his book Mods & Blockers, while Starbucks donated filter coffee for the event.

In the space of three hours on Saturday afternoon, a staggering £1,100 was raised for a very important cause. Apart from the money raised for the Red Cross Haiti Appeal, children and baby clothes are being sent directly to Haiti courtesy of the Rotary Club, children’s toys and books have been sent to the Wood Street Mission in Manchester, and further clothes, books and home wares are being distributed around Red Cross charity shops.

We are delighted to have raised such a good sum to be sent directly to help the people of Haiti while at the same time it has demonstrated that as a community, the people of Knutsford are keen and very good at working together to organise fundraising events such as this.

The jumble sale may become an annual event – watch this space!

Many thanks to everyone EMMA MUIRHEAD
