IN his letter, Chris Bailey asserts that it makes little difference to nuisance suffered whichever runway is used.
However he fails to take into account that because runway two is nearer to Knutsford obviously approaching aircraft using this runway have to fly lower over the town in order to land.
This means they are noisier flying over the town than aircraft arriving on runway one – a fact acknowledged by the airport in their policy of usually swapping runways throughout the day to give residents a break.
It therefore follows that if runway one is closed for any length of time those living under the flight path to runway two will suffer increased noise and disturbance, especially during the night when sound is magnified.
James Smith asserts in his letter that those affected by the noise have only themselves to blame as they chose to live near an airport!
However when I moved to my house in 1975 when house prices were certainly not lower than in other areas, the traffic, at what was still known locally as Ringway, was a fraction of what it is today.
So is he suggesting that before purchasing my home I should have consulted a clairvoyant?
