Singing the praises of the Cheshire Police

OFTEN the police receive criticism and less frequently do they receive our praise.

Therefore out of gratitude to their highly efficient handling of a burglary incident at my house on Sunday evening 14. I write to you to sing their praise.

I disturbed two teenage youths who had simply sneaked into our house even though we were still at home.

I came downstairs to find them in our kitchen and vociferously challenged them, whereupon they ran out of my house having stolen the car keys to my wife’s car.

I chased them down Oakleigh in close pursuit where they fled past a waiting blue Volvo estate car occupied by two adult males whom the police suspect were also part of a car theft gang. On reporting the matter to the police two armed response officers were round to my house within minutes of my phone call.

They put an alert on my wife’s car in case the criminals returned to steal it and advised us to change all locks to our house as soon as possible as the house keys were on the stolen car key ring.

They left in search of the blue Volvo estate in case it was still operating in the local area. Since then the police have been round to all the neighbours’ houses in Oakleigh to warn them that criminals have been operating in our neighbourhood and advising on security measures.

So well done Cheshire police from a grateful member of the public.

It is comforting to know that we as citizens have such efficient support against criminal operatives.

NIGEL CLEGG Oakleigh, Knutsford
