I WAS delighted to read Jo Carter’s letter about the Sunday Market in the Knutsford Guardian, August 2.

It is unacceptable to allow a market to block the roads once a month and more often at Christmas when retailers in Knutsford are paying business rates, utilities, taxes, VAT and other costs.

The market traders do not have these overheads and present unfair competition and deny parking for the existing businesses.

The feedback on the poor quality of goods on offer in the market from our Australian visitors cannot be recorded in this letter, unfortunately.

If the town council was serious about allowing local businesses to flourish, it would work with central government to reduce business rates and other costs and provide many more car parking spaces in the town.

Instead they allow a market to take up parking and close roads.
