AS a retired civil engineer I find the progress being made on the new SEMMS road appalling.

The lack of resources on the site is staggering.

There seems to be no urgency whatsoever to complete the project.

Earlier this year the contractor was blaming wet weather for the delays.

This spell of good weather should have resulted in extended hours on seven days a week where possible.

Instead motorists caught in the never-ending queues regularly witness nothing happening.

I would hate to think just how much the long delays on Styal Road and the A34 have cost in lost time for the hundreds of thousands caught up in them.
