I AM writing in response to Jackie Robertson’s letter about how European towns hold street markets without any problems.

Usually I’ve seen a street market in Europe it’s been in a large square (bigger than Canute Place) or on a wide road (as wide as the four lane section on Toft Road).

That’s not to say smaller towns with historic centres and narrow streets don’t have street markets but normally the town centres in these towns are car free zones.

Consequently there’s often no pavement meaning there’s more flexibility as to where stalls can be placed.

These European town centres being car free zones doesn’t mean delivery vehicles needing to get to local businesses can’t use the roads.

However, it does mean they have to give pedestrians priority so often drive through at no more than around 5mph.

Perhaps we should do the same in Knutsford?
