IT’S clear from her letter that Ms Robertson doesn’t live in the town centre. I’m amazed that she’s able to wheel her disabled father through the crowds that throng the streets on “artisan” market day at anything but a snail’s pace.

I, however, live in the centre, and applaud Mr Cussons’ efforts to represent those of us who live here and are awoken by the noise of the contractors setting up the market at 6am, and the fact that we have to move our cars out of the centre the night before in order to use them on market day 15 days a year.

Us residents need proper representation from the town council, who have encouraged the town centre to become occupied again by people who call it home, not by people making a fast buck on the back of our misery.

We need a proper residents association to call time on this event and on the endless opening of restaurants, such as Piccolino which has extended its terrace at the back, making life a misery for all who live in Egerton Square with the noise which extends well into the night. When will the town council listen to residents?
