CAN anyone tell us why, now the A556 bypass has been completed, all cars vans goods vehicles travelling from Altrincham to Knutsford and Tatton Park use it, yet on their return journey they don’t?

Instead they travel to the Swan public house at Bucklow Hill where, instead of turning left, turn right on to the now so-called ‘detrunked’ A556.

They travel along this 40mph section and upon reaching Millington Lane, turn left.

Then, either because they are lost or just enjoying driving at speeds up to 60mph down this narrow and part single track lane, they turn on to the even more dangerous Reddy Lane and travel for a further mile to the A56, turning left and travelling for a further mile and back to the M56/Bowdon interchange.

This, we are told, is a road improvement to prevent accidents and speed up the flow of traffic.

Well tell that to the horse riders, cycle pack clubs and walkers who use the local lanes and tell them to stay off them or risk being hit by a lorry or van or Tatton Park day tripper.

Better still, ask the Highways Agency to comment on this ‘improvement’ before there’s a fatality on our lanes.
