CONGRATULATIONS to all the players, officials and supporters of Knutsford Football Club on winning the magnificent Cheshire Amateur Cup for the first time at Witton Albion last week.
A penalty late in extra time broke the stalemate against Vauxhall Motors, in a finely balanced and sporting encounter between these two great rivals from the West Cheshire League and the Cheshire County League.
The massive century-old cup is regarded as one of the finest trophies in the country and often compared with the Rugby League Challenge Cup in terms of its size and impact.
It would be nice to see it displayed somewhere in the town for all to see.
The town is fortunate to have such a successful football club, which has competed at the highest level of the amateur game for some years now under the tireless leadership of chairman Jimmie Evans, Brian Deeley and a small band of dedicated helpers.
Perhaps more Knutsfordians will find their way down to the impressive Manchester Road ground to give the club a final push in their remaining games to win a unique double of winning the County League and the County Cup this season.
I know they will receive a warm welcome.
David Roberts Knutsford
