WE read in last week’s Knutsford Guardian that Highways England are planning to spend £50 million improving junction 19 of the M6 at Knutsford with the work planned to start by March 2020.
Whilst proposals for such muchneeded expenditure on our transport infrastructure are to be welcomed, will they be realistic if the Government persists with its misguided Brexit plans?
Last week’s study by the Global Future thinktank found that each of the Government’s four Brexit scenarios, including a so-called bespoke deal would leave Britain poorer and cost the taxpayer millions of pounds each week.
It concluded that in the long term, the amount of money available for spending on public services would fall.
The National Audit Office has also advised us very recently that the total cost of the Brexit divorce bill remains uncertain.
The impact on public services and expenditure is just one of so many reasons why we should think again before we find ourselves leaving the European Union.
We are scheduled to depart in March 2019 and now is the time to act before it is too late.
