AS a Knutsford resident of more than 15 years and mother of three, I totally agree Tatton Park needs a covered eating area for visiting schools when it rains.

However, I feel that what we really need is safer access from Knutsford to the park for local residents arriving by foot, wheelchair and bicycle.

At present, children learning to ride bikes have to wobble alongside the thousands of visitors’ cars driving at 20mph or sometimes faster.

Once I tried to push a friend in a wheelchair from Knutsford town centre into Tatton and with the gravel, slopes and lack of pavement it was very difficult.

Back in 2009, I had a meeting on behalf of Cycle Knutsford where I proposed that we need a proper, dedicated cycle path from Knutsford town centre into Tatton.

This request came following a visit I had made to Tatton with two young children.

With children aged four riding bikes, thousands of cars were racing past and nearly caused a child to fall off with the cars passing too close.

I hope it will not take a fatal accident for Tatton Park, the National Trust and Cheshire East Council to review cars, mums, dads and carers with newborn babies in prams and young cyclists learning the ropes to all share the same road.

I understand there are rules that the main driveway cannot be widened. If so, a separate side walkway and cycling should be created free from traffic.

I feel passionately about this from a safety perspective and I would also like a dedicated cycle path from The Moor and the new community Scouts HQ into Tatton Park.

At present the access is not suitable for those with a disability or young children and involves crossing a lot of mud and stream.
