OH joy! While Jones Homes are currently building their lovely new estates on one side of Chelford, David Wilson are planning to build a further 89 homes on the opposite side, with extra provision for office space, and one can only imagine the amount of extra traffic that will pour onto Macclesfield Road.

We are also told that David Wilson is to contribute £84,000 for the benefit of Chelford residents (whatever that means), and money will also go to the C of E primary school for extra classrooms, something which Jones Homes has already done apparently.

Why can’t that huge landowner, The Church of England, sell off some of its assets to pay for these?

The sad truth is, Chelford ceased to be a ‘real’ village years ago, due to the loss of its pub, bank, delicatessen/grocer and latterly, newsagent, and now there are three more shops for sale.

With the exception of a butcher and a farm shop, residents are forced to use their cars for everything they need, something that’s not only inconvenient to them but harmful to the environment.

That new homes are needed there can be no doubt, but what’s the point of building them where there are no amenities?

If only Chelford had a convenience store/post office, and perhaps a garden centre or coffee shop, it would be a totally different story.

As it is, more houses will only introduce traffic, pollution and extra patients at the surgery, making the place even more empty and isolated than it already is.
