DESPITE an attempt by Cheshire East Council to keep a land sale quiet, it has now been revealed that they wish to sell one of the largest areas of Public Open Space (POS) in Knutsford.

The Higher Downs-Longridge- Booths mere land has been earmarked for sale, in a package with privately owned land, for housing development by the asset team at CEC.

It has not got to that point yet, because I rumbled it.

This is recreational green historic playing field open space.

CEC is acting in its financial interest, not our public interest.

The easiest route to save our POS would be for our local politicians to object in principle to the sale of POS and have it taken off the table.

That is what I asked for at a meeting on Monday, July 23.

Our CEC Knutsford councillors are to meet with other relevant CEC councillors and officers.

However, I have been let down by Knutsford Town Council as they have deferred any communication with CEC until their September meeting.

To my astonishment, CEC Cllr Dean has suggested that he is going to ask for ‘selling a tiny corner bit and keep 95 per cent of the land’.

That does not protect our interests.

Please write to Cllr Hayley Wells Bradshaw and the Town Mayor Cllr Neil Forbes if you support my position that POS should not be sold.

An independent community residents group and possible legal counsel will probably also be required.
