I JUST want to bring to the attention of the Knutsford Guardian some of the work of Mr George Osborne as our constituency MP.

I am a member of the Nether Ward community group which was set up in response to Cheshire East’s housing plans, in particular the development of sites in the north west part of the town.

The group has worked for a number of years alongside other community groups in Knutsford to try and limit the amount of development and protect what is one of only two historic towns in Cheshire East.

As our members already know, we have had limited success in our dealings with Cheshire East Council.

Earlier this year I wrote to Mr Osborne, as constituency MP, to ask for his support in dealing with the land owner (The Crown Estate) over developments proposed for land between Northwich Road and Manchester Road.

After an initial meeting with members of the group at one of his weekly surgeries, Mr Osborne then arranged for a follow up meeting, chaired by himself, inviting The Crown Estate and a representative of Cheshire East Council to join us to go through the issues.

An open and honest discussion was had by all at that meeting, and in respect of the main concern over development on Manchester Road, a position was agreed.

Also, at Mr Osborne’s recommendation, The Crown Estate agreed to address more of our concerns (on both the Manchester Road and Northwich Road sites) at further meetings.

I doubt without the support of our local MP we would have had the same level of engagement with The Crown Estate and that Mr Osborne’s support has been crucial in working to resolve these matters.
