IN the Health Matters column in the Knutsford Guardian on February 2, Dr Bowen emphasised the importance of ‘early detection and treatment’ of cancer with practical suggestions on protection.
‘Creating healthy workplaces’ is particularly welcome but I was struck by the conspicuous omission of developing healthy ways of travelling to and from work.
He should be encouraging readers to cycle, walk or even run to work boosting not only their immunities but reducing the carcinogens caused by motorised traffic and exacerbated to dangerous levels by congestion.
The Crown Estate developments on page 5 of the same edition, provide an excellent opportunity to design residential properties and a business park that put parking at a premium and facilitate environmentally friendly and sustainable ways of getting to and from work.
