FOLLOWING on from the letter about banning dogs from Tatton Park on certain days, I am writing to complain about the way people with children, especially young ones in prams or buggies, take up too much space on Knutsford’s pavements.

As everyone knows, our pavements are very narrow, in some cases dangerously so, and this can be very intimidating especially when confronted with a noisy, sticky-fingered child being pushed towards you.

In fact even when the children are old enough to walk themselves, the chances are that their grubbiness and unruliness might offend.

I accept that it’s impractical to ban all children from Knutsford, so I would like to propose the following and I hope your readers will agree this is a very fair solution: We allow the children of Tory voters only to use Knutsford’s pavements between the hours of 8am and 8pm.

The children of voters of other political parties may have access at other times.

This would mean that roughly 40 per cent of the population would be excluded during the day, based on 2016 general election results, making for a much better pedestrian experience all round.

I’ve agonised long and hard about this approach, but feel that this is fair because Tory voters will, on average, pay more tax than, say Labour voters, and are therefore more entitled to use the facilitiesthat the town has to offer.
