ALTHOUGH I concur with your contributor in last week’s opinion page that pedestrians should always be given courteous priority on footpaths by cyclists, this raises an important issue.
Rather than ban cyclists I think we should be looking to promote cycling.
It is an excellent way of getting around, taking motor vehicles off the roads, cutting pollution, improving health which in turn takes pressure off the NHS and benefits everybody.
What I would like to see is more safe provision for cycling in the way of road management and dedicated cycle ways to encourage young and old to get on their bikes.
