MY first thought when reading the letter about banning dogs from Tatton park on certain days of the week was ‘Oh, the newspaper version of an internet troll’.
My second thought was ‘The editor has written this to provoke a massive backlash from dog owners!’ In the spirit of providing solutions rather than adding to problems, can I suggest to the dog hating family that instead of going somewhere that is known to be full of enthusiastic dog owners (the name Dog Wood might give some clues?) that they buy a Landranger Ordnance Survey Map and explore the many miles of footpaths in our local area instead.
They’ll be very unlikely to meet anyone on one of these walks, let alone rabid, uncontrollable cockapoos and labradoodles.
My own dog can be uncertain with other dogs, and is worse on a lead than not. Rather than expecting all other dog owners to avoid me like the plague, I choose to walk my dog in places where we will be alone, and in the process have discovered that our corner of Cheshire has absolutely amazing walks across farmland, fields, canals, rivers.
Please don’t be yet another example of the kind of person who doesn’t like something, and expects the world to change in order to accommodate their individual preferences.
I don’t like those few people who let their children run about screaming at full volume so try to avoid those places that accept that behaviour, not write inflammatory letters to the Guardian demanding that all children be banned on certain days.
