ON the One Show January 4, the programme highlighted an issue of Sheffield City Council cutting down trees planted as war memorial dedication.
In Knutsford, The British Red Cross acquired the War Memorial Hospital which was built to commemorate those in the town who gave their lives, in their duty to King and country in the Great War of 1914-18.
Within the building is a memorial plaque.
The memorial building was funded by public subscription on land donated by the Leicester- Warren family, specifically as a war memorial.
Having acquired the memorial on borrowed funds from the National Health Service, the British Red Cross, now finding the memorial surplus to requirements – has placed it on the market for “redevelopment” and a source of revenue for itself.
The matter having been brought to the attention of the chairman of The British Red Cross – Mr David Bernstein, has been to absolutely no avail.
