I AM writing to implore our town council and local police force to take back our streets and make Knutsford safe again.

Everyone I speak to has a tale to tell of a near-miss, breathtaking speeding and an arrogant, even verbally violent reaction to any attempt to criticise selfish and dangerous driving in our town.

I feel compelled to write this letter after a short walk into Knutsford this week along the Northwich Road and towards the police station in the town.

I saw a black Range Rover take the corner from Stanley Road on to the Northwich Road at speed without braking at all.

Utterly uncontrolled driving!

I then saw a different black Range Rover take advantage of a rare open road and reach an estimated 50 mph on King Edward Way.

These are two instances amongst many of criminal driving in all kinds of vehicles in the streets of our small town.

I have heard it said that our town council believes in ultra-light traffic regulation and that the police are so understaffed that they are generally only able to warn rather than prosecute.

I understand we are the town in Cheshire with the fewest trafficcalming measures in place.

Does someone have to be severely injured before the safety of the majority is given precedence over the liberty of an arrogant few to drive as they wish?
