READING your opinion pages last week I could not help but notice three massive blunders.

Not from your excellent contributors, but from our current government.

Firstly, within only 12 months of office without the constraints of the Lib Dems we are led into this needless mess we call Brexit – only to see all the culprits vanish from the scene.

Secondly, as your mystery columnist points out, that absolute white elephant HS2 is neither wanted or the best option of improving our railways at £50 billion.

Finally, last but not least, as Mark Carney – Governor of the Bank of England points out – the effects of climate change on our economy and the importance of not relying on oil and gas for investment.

What does our government do?

Slashes subsidies to renewable energy and hikes up incentives and tax breaks to oil and gas.

Investing in fracking is a very high risk, unpopular process, as opposed to investment in renewable technologies where we could be world leading and proud of our science and technology while creating good jobs for the future.

We have the potential in the UK to produce the equivalent energy of nine nuclear power stations from geothermal alone.

In not many years from now we will look back at our current government and shake our heads in disbelief.
