I WRITE in response to the British Red Cross executive director, Mr Phil Hughes.

First, the property is not a house – it was built and designated as a “War Memorial Hospital” – for clarity the hospital itself is a war memorial.

There can be no doubt that the British Red Cross is big business, maintaining claims of charitable worthy motives.

However, its administration costs for staff and executives are colossal, running into millions.

On my inquiry regarding this aspect, I calculate that probably in excess of 25 per cent of income goes on administration – while the man voluntarily shaking the collection tin, in the rain of on the street corner is a hero to us all.

George Osborne, MP – not even a whisper.
