ON READING the front page article regarding the poor state of the road surface on King Street I am amazed that, having put the blocks on the complete refurbishment and partial pedestrianisation of King Street last year, the traders are now complaining about the road.

The proposed plans had the approval of the majority of residents and if their views had been taken into account we would be looking forward to a completely overhauled road surface and the town would be on the way to looking more welcoming and pedestrian friendly.

Apparently, though, the traders’ views are more important than the residents’ and the funding for the scheme was turned down.

How can the traders now be moaning about the state of the road and why should the council care about it when their offers of refurbishment were turned down by these very same traders?
